Weed Management Planning
Range and wildland weed problems are dynamic and complex. No one
tool or technique can provide long term control. Integrated weed
control is a process and not an event. The first step for interested
parties is to understand and define the long term goal. This goal
may generally be defined as establishing a diverse community of
plant species that tend to optimize an area for its intended use
(habitat, recreation, grazing, etc.). A plan must be developed to
provide maximum effectiveness without duplicating efforts or working
against other weed control efforts.
We offer weed management planning at all levels of detail, from
simple advice to detailed and comprehensive programs.
Biological Control Assessment and Monitoring Services
The successful weed management plan considers the existing situation–are
beneficial insects already present, what has worked in the past,
what environmental limitations are present? The subject area should
be assessed and inventoried in enough detail that this baseline
information can be utilized to scope and plan a viable control program.
Consistent monitoring on a regular basis is then required to assess
the effectiveness and economic benefits of the control program.
Through thousands of hours of fieldwork, we have gained extensive
experience and insight into the design of effective assessment and
monitoring programs. We are able to work with you remotely, as well
as on-site. Call to discuss the types of monitoring support services
we provide and how we might tailor them to your needs.
Global Positioning System (GPS)
Geographic Information System (GIS)
Digital Imagery
We use GPS data collection (Trimble), GIS technology (ArcView),
and digital imagery to provide accurate assessment, mapping, and
monitoring services. We are able to customize these services to
a level of sophistication that will best suit your individual situation,
ranging from simple data collection to GIS design to final display
map presentations. We also offer training on your equipment and
software.
Through digital imagery technology, we are able to provide monitoring
and assessment services remotely. In past field seasons, this has
been very valuable to our busy clients. Answers to questions about
the presence, effectiveness, and population density of biocontrols
can be obtained quickly and conveniently.
Workshops/On-Site Training:
We provide education by conducting workshops in all areas of weed
control, monitoring, and management. These can vary from short presentations
to multi-day clinics combining lecture, demonstration, field instruction,
and facilitated planning. We have conducted workshops for Federal,
State, and private clients. We are very flexible and ready to customize
towards your specific interests and issues.
