Yellow starthistle bud weevil

Bangasternus orientalis:Larvae tunnel through the flowering stalk and head where they consume receptacle tissue and seeds. Larval feeding destroys 50 to 60% percent of seeds in the head.

Yellow starthistle weevil

Eustenopus villosus: The larvae of this beetle feed on the flower receptacle and developing seeds. Adult feeding destroys small buds.
